Rocky City Swimming Club and
Club AquaticWe are a MILO Swim Australia accredited program.
Membership fees include CQSA and QSA capitation and insurance.
Rocky
City Amateur Swimming Club Inc was formed in 1996 under the name of
Rockhampton City Amateur Swim Club Inc to provide a group of swimmers
with an umbrella under which to train and compete whilst developing the
technical skills of the sport of swimming. Our club has grown
from a small group to a larger more competitive Club with approximately
120 active members. These members vary in age from 3 up to 60 and
represent a wide cross section of the community which include
indigenous swimmers and those with a disability.
In 2003 the
club moved to the Glenmore State High School. Here our
members have the benefit of our club controlling the heating of the
pool to a consistent 29 degrees for the winter months and the use of
the Glenmore School gymnasium.
The club is affiliated with Central Queensland Swimming and Queensland Swimming and membership numbers vary from year to year.
The club provides financial support in the form of subsidies for those swimmers competing in State and National Titles.
Learn
to swim and competition have been the main focus of the club with
swimmers competing in local Central Queensland A grade and B grade
carnivals, as well as State and National Age Titles.

Our members train
under Program Director Shane Kingston at various times from Monday
through to Saturday, both morning and afternoon at the Glenmore State
High School pool. The swimmers are grouped into various levels to
train – these include learn to swim, stroke development and squad
training. Training is offered 5 days per week commencing at
3.30pm and caters for Learn to Swim; Surf; Squads; Tri Athletes and
Adult Classes.
Shane’s program has been identified by the
Queensland Academy of Sport and is currently being overseen by Michael
Piper. Shane also conducts coaching classes with Glenmore High
School Squad, Frenchville Tri-athletes and adult fitness classes.

Shane
is qualified with a Silver Coaching License and is assisted by Cassie
Day who holds a Bronze Coaching Licence and AustSwim Licence.

CLUB AQUATIC SWIM PROGRAMWorking with the community and schools to make children safer in the water and more involved in sport.
WHAT IS CLUB AQUATIC
At Club Aquatic Swim Program, a MILO Swim Australia Accredited program, our goal is clear -
We
aim to make this school swim centre a focal point for health and water
recreation in Rockhampton. We have drawn on national campaigns
such as Swim Australia, Active Australia and Kids ALIVE to design
a program that is suitable for anyone from 2-102.
AS A MILO SWIM AUSTRALIA SCHOOL
We aim to:-
* Make all Australians aware of the many valuable benefits of swimming
* Get all Australians to learn to swim in a safe, skilled and enjoyable way.
* Maintain Australian swimming for life.
We meet the following criteria:-
* Consent by government authority to operate
* Programme is supervised by accredited teachers
* Agrees to abide by national guidelines WHAT WE DO...
Our
Learn to Swim Program for the children, is designed to link their
natural enjoyment of the water with a program that enables the child to
learn at their own pace, which is enhanced by small class
numbers. Our facility allows us to practice a specialized deep
water aspect in the lessons. This emphasis on deep water ability
aims to reduce swimming fatalities, which are still one of the most
likely causes for death in children under 5.
Learn
to swim classes are conducted 6 days per week at the Splash-A-Bout
facility located underneath Stockland Rockhampton in a heated
environment of 32 degrees. The pool is 6m x 18m with depth ranging from
1m to 1.3m. For babies the mushroom pool is 2.5m x 4m with a 30cm
shelf and a depth of 1.2m providing a small yet safe environment to
fast track the fundamentals of our swimming program. It is
recommended babies start lessons from 6mths of age. Classes are
conducted with parents in the water to the age of 28 mths.
Depending on ability classes are of 4 or 5 students maximum. Lessons
start from $11.00. Enquires phone Splash on 49282244.
Upon
graduating from Learn to Swim, your child will be able to complete 25m
Freestyle with correct breathing, 25m Backstroke, 25m Breastroke, 15m
Dolphin kick and perform safety and survival skills in deep water.
Graduates
of the Learn to Swim Program move on to Mini Squads at either Splash or
the outdoor heated 25m facility at Glenmore Pool. These classes
develop all the skills of swimming in an organised and personalised
manner. The core of the program is to allow your child to make
significant gains in their swimming ability without having to train for
hours every day. Graduation from Mini Squads means that your
child is able to swim 200m continuous Freestyle with correct breathing
and tumble-turns, swim 50m of Butterfly, Backstroke and Breastroke, and
complete correct racing starts and turns.
From
Mini Squads, Club Aquatic cater for performance squads of all levels,
which give the swimmers the opportunity to participate in competitive
swimming, challenging themselves to a level that they are comfortable
with.
